Where gay marriage is legalized marriage is doing worse while the rate of out-of-wedlock births keeps rising

Recent report on same sex marriage reveals its devastating effect on the foundation of our society - the family. The claim of the new Pope, same sex marriage is a destructive "machination of the father of lies", is statistically not far from the truth. 

In countries where gay marriage has been legal for more than a decade, marriage is doing worse. In the Netherlands, where gay marriage was legalized in 2000, marriage rates are down by 10 percent nationwide and at their lowest since 1945. Meanwhile, the rate of out-of-wedlock births keeps rising: 

Four in ten of the 185,000 babies born last year in the Netherlands were born to mothers who were not married. Since scores of studies show that children do worse when their parents are not married, this is a serious issue. Legalizing marriage for gay couples obviously did not strengthen marriage in the Netherlands or improve the well-being of children born there. (http://www.ionainstitute.ie/index.php?id=1499)

Think about the adverse effect on religious freedom and free speech that legalization will bring. Religious groups such as Catholic Charities or the Salvation Army may lose their tax exemptions, or be denied the use of parks and other public facilities, unless they endorse gay marriage.

In Canada, which legalized same-sex “marriage” in 2005, churches which disagree with gay marriage are under attack. When Bishop Fred Henry, the Roman Catholic bishop of Calgary, Alberta, sent a letter to churches explaining traditional Catholic teaching on marriage, he was “charged with a human-rights violation” and “threatened with litigation.”

Churches with theological objections to performing same-sex “wedding” ceremonies are being threatened with the loss of their tax-free status. In British Columbia, the Knights of Columbus agreed to rent its building for a wedding reception before finding out that the couple was lesbian. When they did find out, they apologized to the women and agreed to both find an alternative venue and pay the costs for printing new invitations:

Gays and Lesbians have a right to be respected, to be treated with dignity and to live as they choose. They do not have the right to redefine marriage for the other 95 percent or more of the population.

It's our responsibility to stand up and establish true families, filed with love - families that will transform the nation and the world. It is time to learn to love each other beyond our religion, nationality or race. It is time to bring joy to our Heavenly Father who has been suffering to see his children divided and hurting each other all throughout the history.

The history of wars and suffering existed because never in history did humanity establish the Culture of True Families - The Culture of Heart, that God wanted his children to create. History was filled with sexual promiscuity, misuse and distrust. To move towards establishing of a culture of true and Godly marriages now millions of couples participate in the International Marriage Blessing Ceremonies organized by Rev. History was dominated by selfishness, free sex and distrust that didn't live space for God's presence in our relationships.

According to Sun Myung Moon the wedding ceremony should "alleviate God’s grief caused by the fall of Adam and Eve". When couples of enemy nations, enemy races and enemy religions join in love, history of resentment and pain will be resolved once and forever. The future generations will not carry the barriers from the past in their hearts.

Until now, all weddings were centered on the people who were getting married, but our wedding ceremony is significant and necessary in order to set a condition to indemnify the past history. The cross-cultural marriages contribute to the enormous task of transcending the barriers of race, culture, nationality, ethnicity and religion and creating one family of humankind. "In God’s sight, skin color makes no difference. God does not recognize national borders. God does not stand behind the barriers of religion and culture. They are nothing more than the devil’s tricks. The devil has used them to rule over humanity as a false parent for tens of thousands of years", explains Rev. Moon.

Imagine two enemy families who have cursed each other throughout their lives, people who would never dream of living together. What would happen if these families joined together through a cross-cultural Holy Marriage Blessing? If a son from one family and a daughter from the other became husband and wife, loved each other and built a happy home, would the parents in these two families curse their own children? If that son loved this beautiful daughter of a hated enemy, and she, as the daughter-in-law, were to gave birth to Heaven’s grandchildren as pure and clear as crystal, the grandparents would smile with pleasure. In time the two lineages once soaked with enmity would be transformed.

What method other than cross-cultural marriage will empower Whites and Blacks, Jews and Muslims, Orientals and Westerners, and people of all races to live as one human family? The ideal family is the model for living together in peace. The ideal family is the nest where we live and learn to become one. There we have the foundation of love and respect between parents and children, shared trust and love between husband and wife, and mutual support among siblings. For this fundamental reason, you should receive the Holy Marriage Blessing from the True Parents and establish Heaven’s tradition of ideal families, even if it means risking your very life.

A Life of True Love

To resemble God, the original Being of true love, we should become the owners of true love. We should embody true love and practice it in order to develop our character. This is the way each of us can become true parents.

What is a life of true love? True love is the spirit of public service. It brings the peace that is at the root of happiness. Selfish love is a mask of the desire to have one’s partner exist for one’s own sake; true love is free from that corruption. Rather, its essence is to give, to live for the sake of others and for the sake of the whole. True love gives, forgets that it has given, and continues to give without ceasing. True love gives joyfully. We find it in the joyful and loving heart of a mother who cradles her baby in her arms and nurses it at her breast. True love is sacrificial love, as with a devoted son who gains his greatest satisfaction in helping his parents. God created the universe out of just such love: absolute, unique, unchanging and eternal, investing everything without any expectation or condition of receiving something in return.

True love is the wellspring of the universe. Once we possess it, true love makes us the centers and the owners of the universe. True love is God’s essence and the manifestation of His will and power. When we are bound together in true love, we can be together forever, continually increasing in the joy of each other’s company. The attraction of true love brings all things in the universe to our feet; even God will come to dwell with us. Nothing can compare to the value of true love. It has the power to dissolve the barriers fallen people have created, including national boundaries and the barriers of race and even religion.

The main attributes of true love are that it is absolute, unique, unchanging and eternal, so that whoever practices God’s true love will live with God, share His happiness, and enjoy the right to participate as an equal in His work. Therefore, a life lived for the sake of others, a life of true love, is the absolute prerequisite for entering the kingdom of heaven.
